ShoZu – a better way to moblog?

Friday, March 31st, 2006

Link: ShoZu.

ShoZu is the simplest, quickest and smartest way to share photos, videos and text using your mobile phone… anytime, anywhere

I’ve been hearing a lot of gossip about ShoZu in the past weeks.  I was sure I’d tried it — but it turns out I was thinking of some unrelated web2.0 thing in Australia.  Time to give it a download and check it out!

Johannesburg motorists will now be informed about their traffic fines through an SMS within two to three days of committing an offence.

This is an extension of the SMS traffic search system launched by the Johannesburg Metro Police Department in January. The system was introduced to allow motorists to check if they have any outstanding fines.

Smart!

Dubble Fair Trade Chocolate runs text-a-farmer campaign

Thursday, March 30th, 2006

At Neo One, we’ve been working with the team at Dubble Fair Trade Chocolate.  Recently, Dubble encouraged their network of ‘Dubble Agent’ website members to send in questions for a fair trade farmer in Ghana via text. We did the mobile and website plumbing to make it all work seamlessly for them.

They had a huge response — the results are now up (have a look) showing both the questions sent in together with the farmer’s response. Brilliant!

Changes at Flytxt

Flytxt, the leading mobile direct marketing company, today announced significant changes to its senior management structure including Flytxt Board Director, David Harper, becoming Executive Chairman of the parent company. The changes come at a crucial time in Flytxt’s company strategy as it focuses its marketing and sales efforts on its leading technology product, Flytxt Direct.

Interesting — I wonder what they’re going to do to differentiate themselves from everyone and their dog who also have their own mobile marketing platform.  Is it just a case of bigger marketing spend now that innovation is effectively commodotised across most mobile markets?

Buy accessories and jewellery by text

In an already cluttered Indian jewelry market, Indian jewelry group Tara is venturing into the domestic market with an innovative marketing approach – jewelry retail via SMS.

Rather than sell through traditional retail methods, Tara is publishing a two page newspaper flyer showing images of the jewelry with SMS codes next to them. Interested customers send an SMS to the company with the code of the item they are interested in and wait for a sales representative to call them back.

Instead of simply shipping the item, a sales person will bring the purchased item to the buyer’s house, along with additional, items that and encourage the buyer to increase their purchase. The brand, Tara – Asli Heera Asli Dam, is available at prices of 1,000 to 30,000 rupees ($22 to $672).

I saw something similar in the back of a recent Sugar magazine here in the UK (when I was at the hairdressers the other day).  Smart.  I wonder how successful this is/will be?

SLVR L7 – user problem

Thursday, March 30th, 2006

Link: the chrisjur blog: My New Motorola SLVR L7 – Updated.

The SLVR worked out-of-the-box with iTunes and Mac OS X’s iSync software (I was able to load my phone book via Bluetooth in less than a minute).

So Chris didn’t have a problem at all….  typical!  I’ll restart and reboot everything…
