Britain remains in the grip of a texting mania as new figures reveal around 99 million text messages were faithfully banged out on little keypads every day during February.

Most people insist that I must have it wrong when I tell them we’re sending over 100 million text messages a day.

"Don’t you mean a month?" they ask in disbelief.   Nope.  A day! 

At 5p a text, that’s a heck of a lot of cash.

Even 3p a text, it’s damn expensive.

Goodness knows what the mobile companies would do if, overnight, everyone swapped to Blackberry PIN messages at £10/month unlimited. 

If Douglas and his team at Hotxt are able to get real media traction – to the point that the likes of Vogue and Heat magazine start talking about their service, then I think they could do real damage. 

When I look at my 20 year old brother and his social circle, I reckon he and his 10-20 regular friends must blow at least £450-700 a month on texting.  If one of them caught on to using hotxt and converted the rest…….
