FastSMS.co.uk

The Midlands’ leading SMS service provider, FASTSMS, will this Saturday (18th March) be donating their services in support of the ‘Stop the War Coalition’ march on Trafalgar Square.

The ‘Troops home from Iraq’ march is expected to gather tens of thousands supporters and aims to convince the government to bring home armed forces from the Iraqi war zone, as well as protesting against the threatened invasion of Iran.

FASTSMS have agreed to sponsor the event by providing a unique text number to register ‘stop the war’ votes from supporters.

Supporters text STW followed by their name to 80010, their vote is then counted and added to the running total being displayed live on large screens, in Parliament Square, throughout the day.

The names of the signatories will be added to Tony Benn’s call for a tribunal into the Iraq war.

Tom Wills, member of the ‘Stop the War Coalition’, said, "The text-messaging service will play a vital part in our campaign, enabling us to collect a large number of signatures quickly and efficiently.

"Our unique reply number also allows us to contact signatories and ask them to officially sign up to the campaign, meaning they can gain up to date news on events and political progress.

"We are extremely grateful for the sponsorship and support from FASTSMS in conjunction with this event."

David Pride, director of FASTSMS, said, " It’s great to see how far reaching our technology can be, last week we were fighting against truancy this week we are helping to stop a war."

Update: Just to be clear, the rally took place last Saturday (18th March) and attracted an estimated 80,000 people!
