Gamut Industries launches “Mobile Whoa” campaign for McDonalds Tulsa

Link: Adrants – McDonald’s ‘Mobile Whoa’ Promotion Leverages SMS.

Tulsa area McDonald’s have teamed with mobile marketing company Gamut Industries to create Mobile Whoa, a campaign that offers people an SMS scavenger hunt, mobile coupons and a mobile phone picture gallery. People can join the hunt by texting "hunt 62931" or at the website. Clues will be sent until the mystery is solved.

i remember the shock and disbelief a few years ago when McDonalds UK decided to halt all mobile marketing campaigns… seems their colleagues in Tulsa, USA aren’t shy though.

  1. Ahh, the McDonald’s leaves mobile marketing fiasco. Let me put the record straight here. At the time, McDonald’s was stopping work on its very badly publicised and poorly implemented sms customer loyalty scheme. It was hidden away on their website and had no publicity and hence didn’t really work for them.

They did, however, continue to use SMS internally and as part of sales promotion work.

Glad to see that they’re doing interesting work across the pond. Ahh, SMS treasure hunts. I remember putting those together for Lakeside and Bluewater shopping malls way back when in 2000 and 2001. And very successful they were too.
