Skittles launches BuddyPing for its customers

Picture_2_5In my day, you were lucky if a confectionery brand put on a competition where you could win books for your school, or something equally annoying (from a teenage perspective, anyway).

Not a bit of this with the latest Skittles promotion though.  Look at this!  They’re giving away free BuddyPing accounts for their customers to help them map and monitor where their friends are via mobile.

Innovative and smart. I wonder what the take-up is like?  It could conceivably provide hugely valuable data for Skittles.

Here’s how the service is explained:

buddyPing is a great way to find friends, events and pretty much anything in your local area with your phone.  Just text your current location to us and we will send you a text with the location of your friends and anything happening in your area for free.
