Cambridge public can text police CCTV control

People in Cambridgeshire are being encouraged to take a leading role in the fight against crime with the launch of a mobile phone texting service.

From next month, members of the public in Cambridge, Ely and Soham will be able to send texts to the CCTV control room reporting anything suspicious.

I like this — very smart. I like the ability of being able to whack a text off to the control room who can have a look at what’s going on and send some units over to take a look. You know when you’re in the street at 1130pm and there’s a load of drunk idiots poncing around who are on the cusp of doing something illegal? ;-) Brilliant.. whack a text to Control and they can sort it out.

Excellent concept. I think every Police CCTV control centre should have a public text number.
