CHRISTMAS IS COMING: You can win free stuff and help out some charities too!

I don’t quite know what to think about .mobi. I saw the news that it was launching on Engadget Mobile here.

On one hand, I like the concept.

However, here’s what I don’t like at this time: -

1. ‘mobi’ is four characters. That’s an extra digit to type when you’re accessing a domain.

2. ‘mobi’ — just another two characters and we could be ‘mobile’. That winds me up a bit. You’re not exactly saving much time are you?

3. I feel it’s a bit unprofessional. Mobi? It’s the ‘i’ on the end that does it for me.

4. ‘mob’ would have been better, surely?

5. “Visit us at double-u double-u double-u dot sony dot mobi” sounds a bit weird when you’re saying it. I think I’m used to one syllable top level extensions like .com, .net, .org., .biz

6. I wonder how well it translates to other languages.

That said, I’m a big fan of domain names and extensions in general — ewan.net is mine, for example. So I will certainly be getting ewan.mobi for the symmetry ;-)
