Teletext launches mobile service

Teletext is launching an internet service for mobile phones so users can get everything from latest news and weather forecasts to football scores and horoscopes. Customers with WAP-enabled mobile phones will be able to access the editorial content provided by Teletext’s Digital TV service, currently available with ITV and Channel 4 on Sky and Freeview.

Ah well, this doesn’t turn me on that much. I wonder if the age of Teletext is well and truly over? I remember when they were Britain’s biggest seller of holidays! I wonder if that’s still the case? So much of the information they used to have an effective monopoly on is freely available via any web portal of choice. Still, they certainly have the brand awareness. For me, though, I think ‘Teletext’ will always be that “566, 567, 568, 569… ARSE it’s gone past the page! Now we need to wait while it flicks through another 100 pages!” experience.
