I had to go shopping this evening and opted for the huge Tesco Extra nearby. I was particularly looking forward to browsing the Tesco Mobile section. All those semi good handsets in boxes, right there, sim free, for you to walk out the store with. It’s awful tempting. I was quite prepared to do some impulse buying.
Alas when I got to the shelf, it was all pay-monthly. I had to look twice. EVERYTHING was pay -monthly. What’s more they were hawking Orange and Three contracts. Weird!
The message for anyone looking at this point-of-sale shelf was ‘eff off and get it online’. Or pick up a leaflet. THEN go online and sort it out. Very half hearted display. Many of the handset samples were completely broken or missing screens. Deary me.
Obviously signing up for a contract *IN* store would be a bit of an arse - dealing with contracts and handsets.
There used to be a huge big shelf filled high with sim free Tesco mobile branded handsets. Dunno where they’ve gone now.
