Got a note from Norm Hosken, MD of Teamwork Asia (the Asia Pacific distributors of UK acceleration software Onspeed).
He pointed me to this press release which he correctly asserted would be of interest to me. Very much so! Teamwork have just completed a test with Onspeed whereby they:
… achieved a median acceleration rate of the equivalent of 2.7Mbps. Tests were run on a diverse range of data types around the clock to establish the median.
Well that definitely sounds good. Add to this the fact that 700,000 customers around the world use Onspeed. I think perhaps I’ve been missing something? In the press release, Norm goes on to explain that:
International Business travellers, corporate enterprises and techno-savvy segments are the obvious targets for ONSPEED-enhanced 3G Data Cards, however, the eventual market place will likely extend significantly across all user types.
That’s me there — an amalgamation of segments: I’m a techno-savvy international business globe dancing mobile warrior.

If these sort of optimisation speeds are being achieved, one definitely has to wonder why the network operators aren’t getting in on the act and bundling Onspeed for their customers. I’m definitely going to try it out. I’ve got it on my N90 but I haven’t made the time to check it out.
However I’m interested to give it a go on the Vodafone 3g card. Apparently it’s only a 1.3meg download from www.onspeedasia.com – Norm’s site — or, you can also try www.onspeed.com. Since Norm emailed me I’m gonna get mine from Onspeed Asia.
It is compatible with Windows and MAC and also works on mobiles, Pocket PC and PDA’s.
