Dell Laptops and their integrated Vodafone Cards

Picture_5_20
I was helping a neighbour select a new Dell desktop to buy at the weekend when I came across an advert on the Dell site for 3g-enabled laptops.

Oooh my. It almost made me want to buy one.  I don’t think Dell are the first to do this, however, I’ve always liked hearing about bundle deals which included a 3g card when you bought a laptop… but integrated?  Nice.  Then you don’t have to have the red thing sticking out your PCMCIA port.

For a few years, until Wi-Fi becomes a little more ubiquitous, laptops with an integrated 3g card inside are going to be very, very appealing to me.

aaarrggghhhhh!! what a completely and utter bum that they bring it out now!!! I bought my dell laptop 3 weeks ago and it doesn’t even have a pcmcia port for my 3g vodafone card. And now they come with the 3g card built in.

And what’s worse is there only seem to be 2 companies in the entire universe who sell external pcmcia ports that plug in to a usb – and neither of them have any in stock!

So I’m having to work in the office instead of from our Hyde Park branch!!

I bet they don’t get this problem in Japan, hey Ewan!! I bet you can sit in the middle of a field and just think about what you want to type and it gets zapped straight from the laptop onto the web via a 10 zoggabyte wi-fi connection! and the weather is better!
