The Inigo Wilson Orange issue

Link: A PR Guru’s Musings – Stuart Bruce: PR blogger suspended by Orange.

Inigo Wilson, community affairsmanager for mobile phone company Orange, has written a lengthy racistarticle on ConservativeHome, one of the UK’s top political blogs.

Just in case you haven’t been observing the Inigo Wilson issue, Stuart Bruce has about four blogs on the subject — starting with the above linked one.

Essentially Mr Wilson wrote a rather witty ‘lefty lexicon’, e.g.

Consultation – a formal system for ignoring public views while patronising them at the same time. London’s Congestion Charge for instance.

Community leader – someone plucked from obscurity to represent ‘the views of the community’ for the purposes of ‘consultation’. NB never elected to this position.

Heh. Excellent.

However, Mr Wilson also dropped in other definitions regarding Islam, Nazis, Palestinians and so on. I think if he hadn’t mentioned them and had kept it all fairly innocuous — like the definitions I quoted above — then there’d have been no issue. But there is an issue — since he manages community affairs for Orange. I gather than one of the things you have to do as a community affairs person is run and supervise consultations. Woops. See Inigo’s definition above.

Anyway there’s a ton of opinion round the UK related blogosphere. Stuart’s blog is a useful place to start — then check out Google for Inigo Wilson.
