Reporo launches free texting, IM, MMS

Got the mail today from Reporo announcing the availability of their newly updated service — and, by
default, their entry into the fast growing mobile instant messaging marketplace.  Look out everyone.

Those of you that have checked out Reporo before will know it as a rather good mobile shopping service — I’ve used it many times reliably.

It’s now positioned thus:

What is Reporo?
- Free Texting
- Free Picture Messages
- Free Instant Messenger (msn, yahoo, aol, googletalk…)
- Great Shopping
- Free News & Sport

Very interesting.  I haven’t had time to download the upgrade yet.  I am very excited to see how they’ve implemented it all.  I haven’t heard of a mobile IM service that allows picture messaging before.  I
wonder if this is a first?

Of course it’s not totally ‘free’ — you still have your operator’s data charges to contend with but they’re nothing in the context of  having to pay 12p/40p every time for a text or picture message.

It’s a bold move.  I’m off to go and try it.

The stuff you’re raving about has been done long ago by Chikka in the Philippines. Heck, they’ve even got patents on some of these. They just aren’t litigious as US companies. Not yet, anyway.

If you want mobile messaging firsts, look at the Philippines and Western Europe.
