Free download – apart from the shocking data charges!

Got this anonymous tip in the other day but didn’t have time to publish it. It’s from a leading UK industry insider and it relates to one of the country’s biggest mobile operators.

The uk’s first major occurrence of a carrier offering wholesale GPRS to a direct to consumer service (such that the download was totally free to the user) laughably never worked. I.e. the data was not free and users were charged to download the products – despite being heralded as an industry first, and being advertised as free to consumers for some 8 months or more.
