People without cards

So there were tons of people there tonight who didn't have cards or who don't have websites that I can link to, ergo I wasn't able to document'em here. Quick 'hi' to movie producer Ben Pullen, a friend of Helen's — and management & strategy consultant, Jay Singh. I had a super time tonight at Swedish Beers. 😀 If you didn't or couldn't give me a card, say hi anyway at ewan@smstextnews.com, so I can blog you.

  1. two things guaranteed to make me lose all confidence in somebody who claims to be in business – no business cards and a hotmail/yahoo/msn/etc email address. No matter how small your business, these two things are absolute must-have’s to send out a signal that you are half serious about doing business.

  2. I was at Swedish Beers last night, albeit briefly (I left after an hour, had a nice chat with the guys at Mindmatics, but missed you Ewan)

On the subject of business cards – I don’t have any. I’ve not had any for a number of years. I stopped having them made as I rarely have a need to give them out, even to people I’m doing business with. And I also find the information on them can expire quickly – so I much prefer to get other people’s cards and scribble on the back of them, and then send them a personal greeting email (or letter sometimes) in the following days, especially if it’s an informal meeting.

I guess it’s also the nature of my business not to need business cards very often, although that said I do plan on getting some more made eventually.

  3. pah, at a mobile event everyone should just have their phone on bluetooth broadcast mode, spamming out their contact details.

  4. I used my mobile only once last night to send contact details to someone over Bluetooth – shortly after that the battery died (having only been taken off charge at 3pm that afternoon).

Can’t beat good old pen and paper.
