ROK’s FreeBE TV is going like a train!

Have you checked out freebe.tv yet? Was nattering with Bruce at ROK and asked him to send me over some notes on the latest gossip:

- Until now, mobile TV – the ‘great hope’ for ARPU increase and customer retention amongst telcos around the world – has largely been limited to 3G operators.
- 3G accounts for just 5% of the 2.4 billion mobile phones in use worldwide.
- FreeBe TV, however, was soft-launched just 2-3 weeks ago and is already achieving significant and increasing traction worldwide.
- FreeBe TV is the worlds first free global, network-agnostic, mass-market 2.5G GPRS, multi-channel mobile TV service.
- In just the last 2 weeks, there have been 195,000 hits on freebetv.com (US) and freebe.tv (UK) – including an amazing 40,000 in just the last 24 hours.
- FreeBe TV is currently compatible with 21 major WAP-enabled handsets and offers 12 entertainment channels – all for free – to include Monkey News Network (real live news read by, er, monkeys) and You-Made-It TV – a mobile version of YouTube containing user-generated movies, music videos and film clips.
- Our plan going-forward is to make the service compatible with 100 handsets and to offer 30 channels within the next 2-3 months.
- In addition, we shall be launching FreeBe TV in Sapnish, Italian, German and French over the next few weeks and months.
- Basically, we’re on a massive land-grab for mobile TV viewers – worldwide.

They’re certainly steaming it, eh? ;-)
