That led to a new sex education program being offered to kids over the telephone, known as ’sextxt’. The problem according to some critics, is that neither mum, dad nor doctor are being consulted.

‘Sextxt’ is generated from a computer network, sending emergency information direct to mobiles. Within minutes of the teen sending a text to the helpline, one is sent back giving them seven possible scenarios to choose from:

* STI’s
* Pregnancy
* Missed pill
* Broken condom
* Emergency contraception
* Unprotected sex

An automated response is then again sent back, giving the teen advice on what to do next. Whether it be visiting a website, seeking medical advice or calling a counselling hotline. All available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

If parents nor doctor are being consulted by teens hunting for advice, it certainly makes sense to offer a text information service such as this.
