Twitter launches instant message interface; quicker sign-up

News in from Twitter headquarters. They’re pushing ahead with development. I’m always really excited to come across companies who continually improve and innovate — it’s such a pleasure to read what they’ve been up to and then go and have a play.

Big news is their instant message interface. This allows you subscribe to friends’ Twitter updates via IM — and also post your own updates out to the Twitter service. Smart.

They’ve also sorted out Google Blog Search — so anything public on Twitter is immediately archived and searchable.

Plus, they’ve made it so that you can now:

- Update Twitter from the web
- Place a Twitter Badge on a MySpace or blog
- Let web updates go out to other people’s mobile phones
- Send messages from the web to individual friends
- Upload a profile pic and link to a home page
- Invite other friends by email or phone number
