Got to put my hand up too and admit I raised an eyebrow when I read about the choice of name. First thing that came into my head was 'black' with a South African accent, followed shortly by thoughts of a Spitting Image sketch. :)

I gotta say, when I heard about Blyk, it did instantly remind me of an Afrikaan fellow I knew, who whenever said black, basically said "bleck".

Agree with what Alfie said about the intonation, but even so, it is a little too similar for me.

Glad I wasn't the only one who thought about it though!

Having lived in SA for a number of years, I have to disagree - for me, I pronounce the name of this free MNO - "bl'i'ke", intoning the 'i'. Afrikaans natives from SA (those who have the more pronounced and stereotypical south african accent) pronounce the work black - "Bleck", with a rising intonation on the 'e'.
