1 million Tocmag downloads in a month

I had a bit of news in from Tocmag yesterday to let me know that since they launched a month ago, apparently the Tocmag application has been downloaded over a million times.

Very good. Really impressive, actually. In case you were wondering…

Tocmags (www.tocmag.com ) are user-generated mini-magazines for mobiles. They’re totally free to create and download – the only cost involved is the negligible data download fee charged by network operators. Tocmags are automatically stored as a Java file on the mobile’s memory, so they can be read anywhere regardless of network coverage.

If they continue with that level of traffic growth, they could very well attract a substantial amount of interest. Here’s some more about them:

Prior to its official launch, 125,000 Tocmags were downloaded during its six month ‘beta’ testing phase – a figure generated entirely by word-of-mouth. A combination of factors have driven Tocmag’s post-launch download figures. Firstly, most users tend to download several Tocmags each. Secondly, ‘private’ Tocmags, which are not published on the site, are proving increasingly popular as a content-rich alternative to SMS messaging.

Currently top of the ‘public’ Tocmag league is the ‘movies’ Tocmag (download www.tocmag.com/movies to your mobile internet browser). Published monthly by film buff Jennifer Burk, the six-page mini-magazine features reviews of the latest Hollywood releases and a trailer for Clint Eastwood’s forthcoming WWII epic, Flags of our Fathers. The ‘movies’ Tocmag has generated nearly 15,000 downloads alone.

    Hmmm, check Tocmag’s traffic ranking on Alexa. 1 mio seems to be exaggerated by about 990.000 ; )
    I know everything is allowed in war and love but hey ‘keep it real’ as David Cameron would say.

    @Bernie S

    Tocmag is even too stupid to make the cooking of their numbers less obvious.

    I don’t want to go in the details here but their numbers are not even 10 % of what they claim.
