The power of the K800i

I was just sent a few pictures of the family dog, Daisy (King Charles Cavalier Spaniel; programmed to lie around).

They were taken by my brother with his K800i Sony Ericsson. I’ve posted one here to the right.

I sat and marvelled at the phenomenal quality. What’s the point of walking around with an SLR when, generally speaking, your bog standard mobile phone can produce such quality photos?

The K800i is a standard accessory for the mobile masses particular given the way in which the major operators have been pushing it over the past few months. If you’re paying about £40 a month on a contract, you’re probably going to be offered the handset at no cost. I get a buzz of excitement every time I see an ordinary mobile user walking by, gripping a K800. The excitement stems from the fact that they’ve got so much power and capability in their hand. Yes, they might not be using it to full advantage, but you know, when they’re sat bored on the bus, they might just have a look around and play… you never know 😉

I love it, absolutely love it.

A note of arse though: Fraser uploaded the images to his computer via a cable.

Yes… a sodding USB cable. How depressing!

I asked him how he reacted to the fact that it would have cost him £9.40 to send the four pictures via his Vodafone account (£2.35 x 4 pictures, each 1mb).

His response: “As soon as I can, I’m swapping from Vodafone to T-Mobile, or maybe Three.”

He’s on a Vodafone student unlimited text deal. Interestingly, in 5 months he’s actually only sent 1,100 texts and 43 picture messages — about 25% of his ‘unlimited’ fair use allowance.
