Just got this through on the N93 — which is now my Three handset — do you recall, ages ago, I tried out the txtdomz service? Well nice bit of clever marketing, they whacked me out this text earlier this morning.

Sounds like a good deal to me.

First blog on them from May 2006, and follow-up.

Are they allowed to use that number to sell on? Grabacondom.com has been closed temporarilly because they were not runing on the micropayment shortcode. Do txtdomz have a special arrangement to use that number because of advertising etc or are they indeed running illegally on it which I highly doubt is the case. :)

    Just wondered.

There used to be a designated range shortcode here in the UK for e-money services, 78xxx and 79xxx. However recently (and I can’t for the life of me find the exact details), it was relaxed. As far as I remember, when applying for a new shortcode from any range you can advise that it is for emoney services. Again from memory, this doesn’t apply to existing shortcodes outside of the 78xxx/79xxx range, just new shortcodes.

Someone should be able to give you the full info..

    Right, found the info.

From the end of November, E-Money (Off-handset purchases, or OHP) services on dedicated shortcodes are no longer restricted to 78xxx/79xxx. If you want to use a shared shortcode, it still has to be in the 78xxx/79xxx range – however for dedicated you can now use other numbers outside the 78xxx/79xxx range (providing to make it clear on the customer care forms).

I get the feeling that 87121 is not a dedicated shortcode, based on the fact it’s a keyword based service, and having Google’d it I see other people advertising the same number. ICSTIS and Three say it’s registered to Opera Telecom.

Hope that sort of answers your question.
