A crack and a hack for Agile Messenger

Three times I’ve been emailed, via the anonymous form, from people asking if I have a crack or a hack for the rather wicked mobile instant messenger software, Agile Messenger.

Despite the fact that the emailers didn’t actually think to put their contact details on the form (perhaps that was by design), I’m delighted to report that I have a hack for Agile Mobile: It’s called a PayPal account and $11.

Programming software — complex stuff like Agile Messenger — isn’t easy. It’s not the sort of thing you can knock out in 20 minutes. For that, there’s a cost. I reckon people should lump it. Either recognise that there is an inherent cost to the developer and pay up — or don’t bother. Arsing around hunting for a crack or a hack… well, I think that’s rather cheap.

Recognise that they’ve made a good piece of software — check it out for 7 days and see if you like it, no cost. After that, if you’re still using it, then chuck them over $11 for three month’s usage or $44 for the year (from memory). It’s not a lot of cash to pay when you look at a) the value gained and b) the fact it’s clearly cost Agile a bit of cash to develop.

    If you want a free messenger the best I’ve found is “Fring!” – also worth a try. Supports VoIP too, but frankly sticking with 3′s skype service is much better (voice carried over gsm)

    Fring is cool – but I downloaded and paid for Agile about 2yrs ago.

    Never strayed away too far.

    Cost me about £8 at the time for a life long subscription!

    Not everyone makes freeware dude!
    It’s good to buy the odd bit of software every now and then – support the developers!

    Fring is good – but I only use it for chatting to my Skype contacts.
    I use Agile for integrated MSN & Yahoo chat.. plus I quite like the UI.

    But hey! No one is making you buy Agile… If you like Fring – use Fring!

    I LOVE my Agile Messenger and i felt it was worth the price, seems like it was 30.00 for unlimited use…and i use it a lot :-) . BUT IT JUST STOPPED WORKING!!! Does anyone else use it with Tmobile tzones and it stopped connecting around July 19th 2007? I also use Opera Mini web browser (Nokia 6620) and that also stopped working. I contacted Agile asking if they knew what was up and they said Tmobile turned something off that allowed a lot of 3rd party programs work with their phone.

    So if there are any Tmobile people out there, have you found a way to keep using Agile? mobile web IM sux!!!!!! And they dont make this Fring thing for my phone so i cant even try that :-(

    Just ran a quick straw poll in the office and they all know nothing about this.
    (90% of them are ex-TMO).

    Recommendation: Re-send yourself the right settings from the Nokia website.

    It might be because you need to subscribe to a different Web N Walk tariff to be allowed to use instant messaging.

    T-Mobile cut off all the open ports on it’s $5.99 plan except 8080. there is some unique settings with the proxy and port settings to get internet working again but you have to upgrade to the $19.99 BlackBerry plan (yes on your mobile decide it will work) to get the ports MSN yahoo etc use……. or you can setup a proxy at home and redirect all traffic to the open ports. For me, the $15/month wasn’t worth the trouble. $5.99 for unlimited internet was too good to be true and of course they cut it off finally.

    i have the same problem. im on nokia n80 unlocked/unbranded my agile only connects when i use a wifi/wlan signal. will nt connect with tmobile interet/mms/tzone access points

    Im in Love with Agile Messenger..
    Its way more advanced compared to Fring.
    For one i can connect to Yahoo, AOL,Google,MSN,ICQ and Jabber all at the same time.
    I can send across pics, video and audio messages taken fresh from the phone.
    The best part i love bout it, is the ability to just hold down the phones jog dial button down and start recording audio, and on leaving it the audio gets send. (Pretty much like a walkie talkie)
    Its smooth fast and the UI is cool.
    Bout it for 56.90 $ for a life time membership allowing free upgrades for all the versions.

    @bri – I tried this with them and they said it was not possible.

    One phone = One Client

    You *can* install it onto a 2nd phone, but only if you purchase it again.

I paid for agile messenger lifetime usage and does not work for me no more after one month on a symbia s60v3 nokia e50.So doen`t tell anyone to but his shit, I advice anyone how can to crack hack or anything they can if they want to use this rubbish.Poor, very poor apreciaion for agilemessenger!

    It’s good software but so overpriced it’s a rip-off. It serves these developers right that people end up cracking their software. Sell at a sensible price and not this stupid time-limited deal and customers ma actually be more willig to part with their money. I’m off to find a crack.

    @Plaka – Have you tried emailing them for assistance? I’ve used this software for years now and the rare times that I’ve had to contact them (usually during a phone or a SIM change) they’ve been super accommodating and been more than happy to help.

    @Alex – Believe it or not developers/businesses need to have something called ‘a business model’. Making money back for their investors and/or themselves has to be at the top of their priority list.

    Anyway, if you want the same thing for free, quit moaning and get Fring.

    Love to pay for it, but 50 bucks for the program and another 12 bucks to get free updates – that's a joke. I'd be willing to pay max. 40 bucks for it with updates. Otherwise they are just doing it to themselves. Besides. Not everyone thinks that PayPal is a trusted system of payment.

    I'd surely pay for it in an eye blink….. however all the payment options provided are not available in my country Uganda( East Africa). So am gonna crack it or look for a crack, which ever is faster. Other I conquer with u, people sh'd pay for good worthwhile software like Agile Messenger software.
