Apple: Mobile companies are totally clueless

Link: MacNN | Apple, Jobs played hard ball with carriers

“Apple bucked the rules of the cellphone industry by wresting control away from the normally powerful wireless carriers,” according to the report.

“These service providers usually hold enormous sway over how phones are developed and marketed — controlling every detail from processing power to the various features that come with the phone.”

… aye, and look at what a shit job they’ve done of it to date. MMS, anybody? ;-)

Jobs reportedly was also very dismissive about the abilities of mobile carriers to understand their consumers’ needs and other technology trends.

Whatever your view on Apple, whatever your view on iPhone, I’m pleased SOMEONE has stepped up to the plate and said, ‘er, no, this is not right’ and forced some of these pipes (“mobile operators”) to change the way they do business.

Now, whether that works out well…. who knows. I hope so.

yeah, those crazy operators having handsets with open operating systems, content downloadableover the air, an financial ecosystem that supports a wealth of 3rd party service providers (in the UK at least).

Steve Jobs will show them the error of their ways !
