Sprint offers unlimited text, $10/month

As text messaging services consolidate their position as the killer application of mobile data, Sprint customers are being given access to unlimited messaging at a discount.

High volume users can sign up for either a Power Pack Individual Plan, which features unlimited night and weekend calling, and offers the option of unlimited SMS messages (both incoming and outgoing) at a cost of just $10 per month. Those customers who are on a Power Pack Family Plan, priced at a minimum of $69.99, can enable unlimited text messaging for everyone in the family for an additional $20/month.

Don’t get me started.

Ok, this is wicked. Just. Arrrgh. A lot of us are still being nailed for £0.125 per text here in the UK — and that’s not about to change whilst we’re all paying up.

So right on Sprint. British customers: Don’t hold your breath for a plan like this…

    This is slowly changing, T-Mobile offers 3p texts to other networks and some of the networks now give free texts for a guaranteed top up each month.

    I get 1000 texts a month as I top with £30 with o2

    THIRTY POUNDS? That’s a lot of cash to have to spunk up every month! I see your perspective though. Orange will give you unlimited texts (ie 1,000+) on their 35/month price plan.

    Over here, the semi-government-owned Telstra is offering a $30 plan (10 – 15 pounds, I think?) with unlimited SMS, MMS, email and (unless I’m reading it wrong) up to 12gB of data too. The only device I’ve found thus far that you can have this on is the HipTop2 – known as a SideKick2 elsewhere – which is 2G and doesn’t support a lot of 3rd party software, so they might as well have being giving you a terabyte of data, but the idea is good. I think it’s another $15 or $20 a month for the hiptop device, over 24 months, which does put the price up, but if you’re a massive SMSer and MMSer, plans like that can be very cheap.
