Trying to call a Carphone Warehouse store

I thought I’d call to see if the local Carphone Warehouse store had a Nokia E61 in stock. You know, thought I’d try and spread the love locally.

I looked up the store’s phone number on the Carphone Warehoue site:

Picture 19

Called the number.

Uh oh.

Turns out it’s a redirect number to the usual ‘thank you for calling Carphone Warehouse, if you’d like to buy something, press one.’

ALL I WANTED TO DO WAS SPEAK TO THE LOCAL STORE. Instead, it’s redirected me to their call centre.

NEXT.

I’ll walk down. Walk in the shop. And then be mildly surprised to find they don’t have one in stock…………

You’re not the only one – and it turns out it’s all part of an illegal money-making scam, which I exposed, and has received good coverage, and was picked up by The Register.

Good to see you covering this too, Ewan!
