I was staying at Down Hall this weekend and, alas, doing a ton of work via their T-Mobile wireless connection. I managed to take a bit of time and wander around, Nokia N95 in hand. I configured ShoZu to automatically upload any pictures I took. This one here is 1.1mb in size. There’s been a heck of a lot of commentary over the N95′s wicked 5 megapixel camera, so I won’t go into too much depth.

Suffice to say it is just brilliant. I’m delighted with it.

The handset? Ahh well it’s excellent. It really has been making me want to use a ‘mobile’ more. My primary handset is the wider Nokia E61, with *no* camera, so it’s quite exciting to use a normal mobile now and again. It’s so light, too. Fits nicely in my pocket. Doesn’t weigh heavily. Automatically locks when you slide it closed. The speakers are good enough to support me using it as a mini ghettoblaster in my room — albeit repeatedly playing the only track on it (a factory installed Moby track).

I will need to investigate the possibilities of EASILY getting music on to it.

Oh, and I picked up a 2gig data card from it after I took a few videos and found out that, at full quality, the handset’s onboard memory offered about 4 minutes of recording time. Heh.

Haven’t tried the GPS yet.

I’m delighted with the battery power. Using it as a normal phone plus camera looks like it might afford a good few days worth of usage.

I must say the battery seems alot better after a good drain and offline recharge.

Unbelievabily the older my N80 got the better the battery seemed to be, hopfully the N95 is the same. Maybe the batteries get used to certian charging cycles?

Have taken a few nice pictures and I just dumped a load of mp3′s directly onto the transflash card using disk mode.

I love the fact that running apps display a logo next to them in the grid menu too, nice little touch.

Gotta agree the keylock is perfect, just enough time to stop it if you need to but not to long at makes calls in your pocket. It seems like Nokia actually thought alot about the N95 and not just chuck it together with any old S60 os the had kicking around.

Pretty impressed with the media player and find apart from killing the battery is very good. Keeps me happy on the few train journeys I have to make.

That picture you took, at first glance looks great.. but looking a little closer reveals a lot of JPEG artifacts – is this the highest quality offered by the phone?

  • ewan

That’s the highest quality setting, Jay — I reckon it’s pretty shit hot for a mobile handset though?

Did you leave the camera’s white balance and other settings alone for this shot ore adjust for “sunny” (assuming this is similar to the N80) and adjust the other settings?

  • ewan

No I just used the default automatic settings, N80ie
