Texting is actually quite popular

I always enjoy reading articles from American publications that still view text messaging as ‘new’. I know it’s quite new in America, but really, it’s a bit old almost everywhere else, isn’t it?

I liked this particular quote from Ashley…

Ashley Marie Shandonay, 23, an Oshkosh student, said she loves how fast and private text messaging can be. ‘Texting is unique because it is a quick and easy form of communication,” she said. ‘It’s crazy because a year ago, not many people sent out texts. Now this year I added texting to my cell phone plan and two of my roommates added it to their plan this week.”

If you’re an American mobile service provider and you’re wondering why it’s sometimes taking a bit of time to get in the door to new clients… this is a good indicator as to why. It’s still very new — and if the kids are only just getting it, what are the adults thinking? ;-)

So true! Literally last night (I live in San Francisco) I heard someone say “did you know you can text Google on your phone?” – it’s quite unbelievable, really, but also kinda cool to watch. Those of us in the SMS industry just have to wait it out while more and more people here catch on.
