So your bog standard N95 should display 3.5G when in HSDPA coverage. I checked that last night with my Vodafone Germany (HSDPA 3.5G) SIM card vs a ePlus Germany (UMTS, 3.G) SIM card and the icon pops up when a HSDPA connection is established.
