I haven't commented on any of this up to now. I had just downloaded Skype and got it working for the first time last Tuesday. In the past it had a bad habit of crashing my computer so I never got into Skype. But since I did download it last week and really start reading about the services, I was considering getting a phone number from them. At this point I think I will just put that off indefinitely and just stick to my set up that I have now, my regular mobile, GrandCentral and Truphone. Sorry Skype, your loss, seeing as I use over 4,000 minutes a month regularly.

Skype's failure is actually really bad for us all in the VoIP industry. I've had two potential customers this morning both mention Skype being down and thats making them wonder whether VoIP (in general) should be trusted.

Hopefully in the long term though, people will realise that if you rely on something its worth paying a small premium for reliability. Use a VoIP service thats designed for business use, not a service that happens to be used for business!

I think you might have misread it. The "if you didn't miss out" part is not about not being a subscriber but rather "if you are a paying subscriber to one of these subscription (not pay as you use) services and didn't try to log on so didn't notice it; you will also get an extension." The great unwashed (like me) who use skype only sometimes and pay per minute without a subscription get nothing. There would be no way to identify, from among the subscribers, those who had tried and those who had not tried to log in because they weren't succeeding and so no log of attempts was created.
