I have the same problem and I called into a orange shop earlier today, and they said that they had quite a lot of people with this problem and it is a problem with the network, and it has been reported. I was worried there was something wrong with my new phone, but there is just a problem with the networks, which I think the man in orange said he was told that it was 02's network and not orange, but it may be both and they are trying to resolve it.

So frustrated! My mother lives in South Africa and has a mobile contract with MTN, I am with Orange. For 2 1/2 years we have had no trouble, but for the last 6 weeks she has been able to receive my texts but I have not received any of hers. MTN say that they are sending them but Orange are not accepting them. Orange say they are aware of a problem and so far have asked her to try use another providor to send messages and told me to reset the factory settings on my phone. My husband is with O2 and is able to receive and send messages to MTN phones. He is being very patient but getting a bit irritated with girly messages especially as our baby is due any day. Could this be down to the 2 companies competeing in the Ivory Coast? Is anyone else struggling?

I've had this problem too recently. I'm on Orange and my friend is on O2. She gets all my texts, no problems. However some of hers don't come through to my phone. Both of us have had our numbers for several years, so there nothing new with the prefixes.

I don't suppose there is such a thing as a censor that picks up on swear words and refuses to deliver the whole text? It's very frustrating as they still charge us for texts that aren't delivered! Daylight (and nighttime) robbery!

It can be as mentioned by NJAR that the number is yet to be added to the database, but this is very unlikely. When a new number range is released, OFCOM approves it and the list will be passed to the service providers a couple of months before to allow sufficient time to add the new number range.

The best thing to do would be to ask O2 to check to see if they have got valid delivery reports on the network for the messages that were sent. They should be able to see when it was delivered and how many attempts were made.

If they are being delivered chase this with Orange. They will have to trace the messages and see what happens when they are passed through the network. You need to be 'firm' with the network as they will easily pass the blame to the other side.

In our experience, there have been some occasional vagaries with the O2 -> Orange interconnect when it comes to SMS.

As an Orange partner, a large set of our virtual mobile numbers are provided by Orange. Historically we've had occasional issues with multi-part messages as well as straight non-delivery from O2 subscribers.

These seem to impact certain numbers/ranges of numbers. Using a different number often removes the problem.

We understand that both Orange and O2 network engineers are working on these issues.

Our experience is with virtual mobile numbers, so this may not apply, but it might be worth your reader asking for a new number. To see whether that is also affected.

One possibility here is that the phone number is on a newly launched prefix range, i.e. the 07XXX bit. In laymans terms when a new prefix range is launched, carrier routing databases need to be updated, and in this instance there is a possibility that the prefix range got launched before everyone was fully updated. There could of course be other reasons.. Eitherway if one is calling a carrier call centre, try and get straight through to second line support (i.e. not the first person who answers the phone).
