SMS Text News Flowers update

flowersWe’ve had a load of good nominations sent in by SMS Text News readers. It was an easy concept. If you missed it, the overview is this:

Each week, we’re going to send some flowers or a load of beer to someone nominated by a reader.

Why? Well, to spread some cheer. Something that’s often in short supply on a Monday. And a bit of back-patting. Apart from the monolith mobile networks who each take a turn winning ‘network of the year’, there’s not a lot of back-patting going on across this industry. We want to change that.

Plus, it gives us all the opportunity to see who’s getting the flowers and read all about why. Some of the submissions we’ve had so far are really illuminating.

There will be no noses-pressed-against-windows here. The Monday Flowers are open to anyone, provided they work somehow, somewhere connected with mobile.

Why send flowers/beer? Recognition. At least, that’s what we’re thinking. Who do you reckon deserves some public recognition or a pat on the back from us?

I’m willing to bet you’ve got an idea. An old boss? A good mate who’s done sterling work recently? A friend who’s running a start-up and could use a bit of SMS Text News light pointed in their direction?

All we need from you is the person’s name, company (so we can work out their office address) and an explanation for your nomination. No location limits. We’ve already got quite a few European and American submissions.

It’s not a draw. Where possible, we’re going to send flowers to absolutely everybody nominated. We’ve already got a bit of a backlog for the next few Mondays so get your recommendations in quick.

Krystal is going to be the SMS Text News Flower Fairy. That is, she will be arranging the sending and will post up a note each Monday with overview of who’s in the spotlight. The first set of flowers is delivered this Monday.

Ideally we’ll try and get a comment from the recipient and maybe even a picture, but, you know, that might be difficult. We’re still working out the exact wording for the note that goes with the flowers. Right now, we’re sticking with ‘Hi, you’ve been nominated to receive flowers, congratulations from everyone at SMS Text News’.

Only, last night, whilst I was sat staring at the wall (“relaxing”) I realised that some people might not know what that is, and we should specifically put ‘smstextnews.com’. And. Er, … hope that they then visit te site and get in contact. So, yeah, that bit is still in beta.

To make a submission, simply email me (ewan@smstextnews.com) with the subject ‘flowers’ and your recommendation (name, company name, why you’re recommending them for flowers/beer). Provided you didn’t nominate Mickey Mouse or a Vodafone employee, we’ll take care of the rest.

(My initial post on the subject is here)

(I was only kidding about Vodafone employees, they qualify too).
