Text messages warning of the dangers of London’s “clip joints” will be sent to visitors as they approach the venues.

Westminster City Council hopes the messages will stop tourists being exploited in Soho, central London.

Will Westminster City Council take it upon themselves next to warn me when I pass a McDonalds that (allegedly) burgers and fries are bad for my health.

Or perhaps when I pass by a beggar in the street it will warn me not to encourage him by giving him some money (yes indeed, Wesminster have a bit of a reputation for moving beggars along).

Or recognise that I have been stood for more than 2 minutes on Westminster Square and so warn me that it is illegal to have a gathering there.

I applaud the council for using modern technology – they are definitely one of the more advanced councils around. But I wonder where use of bluetooth technology might end – and once GPS in mobiles is common-place I am quite scared of how it might all end up getting used…..”Mr MacLeod, we notice from tracking you every 5 mins throughout today that you took a very interesting route through W1 (Soho) – please explain to Big Brother the meaning of this deviation?”….. ;-)
