Have you bought one? Has anyone you know bought one?

It’s a pretty neat idea. Buy it, stick in a Pay As You Go sim, place it somewhere interesting, then call it whenever you want to see what it can see.

It’s specifications are here. I’m going to see if I can get hold of one, stick it by my window and then let people call it. The SMS Text News Pupillo!

For occaisional use, it’s probably cheaper to use Orb with an X-Series phone, and set up a cheap webcam on your PC. Here in Oz anyway, because videocalling is 35c/30sec over and above your plan!

I was going to say something similar to Daniel in that if you sign up to X-Series for 12 months you can get a free slingbox, plug a standard cheapo camera (either a consumer camcorder or, preferably, a super-cheap CCD camera) and connect using the Sling client on your X-Series handset.

Having said that, there is a serious geek factor from having a dedicated cellular camera device… Gimmicky though as it’s easily defeated by bog standard cell jammers (and identifiable as a cellular device from the big Three logo).

Haha – take it along to all kinds of networking events…

We don’t get Sling over here in Australia. Orb and my $5 webcam will have to suffice!

Though seriously, wouldn’t buying one of these EyeCams (as they’re named here) make you look really shifty? They practically scream “I’m a stalker! I’m putting one in the tree outside your kid’s windows!”
