i also paid unlocktelecom.co.uk (visual effects ltd) �4.99 to unlock my phone only to be informed that they coudnt.. Shocking. Ive emailed them and i now plan to take this further. I also plan to do everything in my power to advertise this online theft..I will enjoy this.

Exactly the same happened to me – wanting to unlock a HTC S710 from Orange – they list HTC at the top of their list of “Popular makes” – took my money and then sent me back rubbish that I already knew. Scam through and through. Feel like reporting them to Trading Standards….

These people are rogues, plain and simple – avoid.

The service they supply is to take your money and then tell you nothing at all in return. When you complain they then tell you they can’t unlock your phone and send you some generic unlocking info. (garbage) which they scraped from t’internet. When you complain further they say you should have read the terms and conditions before buying from them.

In compensation they send you an out-of-date Orange SIM card.

Mm, I wonder if I will do business with them again?

also, the Nokia 1100 has an ‘unlock lock’ which means you only have 5 attempts to unlock your phone correctly.
Except Unlock Telecom sent me a list of 12 codes. Lucky for me the fifth one worked.

they did this to me. tried to unlock (in this order):
Sony W880i (T-Mobile)
Samsung E900 (T-Mobile)
o2 Xda IIs (O2)

nothing. the same message you got, every time.

then they sent me a list of phones they could unlock, the newest I could see was the Nokia 1110 (Virgin).
So, 2 weeks after paying I got that phone unlocked, even though the phone itself only cost my grandmother �10 to begin with!

What a bunch of thieves! Companies like this do nothing for getting people confident about Internet transactions (sound like something from the late 90’s). I almost feel compelled to run a campaign to make sure no one else gets stung.

Ewan, I feel so angry that I should PayPal over a couple of quid to cover your loss.
