Woe is me! The man from Del Monte says no!

Awwh.

Last month I submitted the form at NewsNow, the news aggregator folks, to ask them to consider including SMS Text News updates in their database.

I met Struan Bartlett (I think it was him?), the founder, years ago when he (and I) were launching our companies back in the dotcom days. We shared the same PR company. I’ll need to go and find the picture of us. We were all in the Evening Standard together ages ago. In fact we even paid them a load of cash for news feeds for our site for a year or so. So last month I reckoned I should connect with them and fill out their form.

Woe! I got a nice mail this evening from Nick Gilbert, Publisher Relations, at NewsNow, telling me that my application had been DECLINED. Unfortunately, Nick and the team ‘felt that [they] have sufficient mobile phone news on NewsNow’.

My issue? I don’t react at all well to the word DECLINED. I think something like ‘it has not been possible to include your feed at this time because’ is much friendlier.

Still, we move on. Google still likes us!

I’ve never heard of NewsNow… I use NewsGator, they’ll let you aggregate any RSS feed and have an awesome iPhone interface that syncs read and clipped items back to my NetNewsWire on my desktop – the clipping feature is great for things I don’t want to read “on the road” (and for “road”, read “toilet”) but do want to remind myself to read later on.

NewsGator isn’t free, but then it’s not shit either!
