Email is dead, or at least very unhealthy. Teens are abandoning the format as clunky and slow, opting for more rapid-fire instant messaging (IM), or text messaging on their mobile phones (SMS).

Social networking sites all have their own message services and 20-somethings holding out against joining Facebook have reported a significantly quieter inbox since the phenomenon truly took off.
