Parents are outraged at an Austrailian health organization who have created a campaign for teenagers to “TXT 4 free condomz”
KIDS old enough to use mobile phones are being offered free condoms.
Hundreds of school students have already received free condoms within four days of texting the service set up to coincide with end-of-school celebrations.
Parents are furious at a health organisation’s “text-ed” campaign, which they say is encouraging under-age sex.
Just one week into its “TXT 4 free condomz” drive, Marie Stopes International has received 400 messages.
Describing condoms as the must-have school formal accessory, Marie Stopes say they are aiming to curtail rising rates of sexually transmitted infections.
Students who SMS their name and address to the number will receive two free condoms sent to their homes “in a discreet plain envelope”.
Children are not required to enter their age in the SMS, so there is no way to know if condoms are going out to children younger than 12.
Well I agree that if they’re going to kids younger than 12 that may be a bit of a problem, but if teens are having sex, at least this encourages them to get condoms.
I think this is a great initiative. I’m not exactly young but i still get funny looks from the not-so-young check-out person when i go into a supermarket to buy condoms. If kids are having sex then at least they are doing it safely and getting free condoms via sms saves them the embarassment from buying them. lthough the stigma in buying condoms is another issue altogether.
I offset the embarassment by stocking up when boots have a three for two offer (they always seem to have one).
Three for two… Natch.
Meanwhile – I think this is a great idea and should be rolled out across the rest of the world.
where to sms to get free condomz?
