I’m not sure if I agree entirely Steve; I recently upgraded my N95 to the latest firmware — I backed everything up as instructed on the device then upgraded; then recovered the backup… only to find half my sodding applications (and configurations) had disappeared. That doesn’t happen with an iPhone update.

Furthermore, I actually had to modify my N95′s internal model number, so I could do the upgrade. The update wasn’t available for my standard UK unlocked N95 much to my annoyance.

However I’m quite content now… But what a palava!

It’s not so black and white. Nokia’s Software Update service, via PC Suite, is all pretty slick now and there’s a degree of auto-notification when new software is available. But yes, it could be easier and it should update without having to manually backup and restore all your data and apps.
