Nokia to put a Facebook button on their handsets?

Nokia is rumoured to be poised to take a stake in Facebook as part of a partnership between it and the mobile phone maker where the social network will be integrated into Nokia’s handsets. A report on tech blog, PaidContent claims that the “the Facebook placement could be as prominent as the YouTube button on the main screen of iPhone.” The site also cites “sources” who say the “early stage talks” involve the possibility of Nokia purchasing a stake in the company. Spokespersons from either side failed to comment, although a Nokia exec reportedly admits: “There is talk of a partnership in the works.”

Interesting, interesting. I go hot and cold on this sort of concept. Great news, potentially. But why no MySpace button?

While we’re at it, why no Flickr button? A Yahoo button? A Hotmail button? ;-)

No doubt you’ll be able to get an iPhone Facebook widget available one isn’t there already. Social mobile network at a touch of a widget.

I wonder if Facebook negotiated a licencing deal for use of their logo with the Nokia handset button.

I don’t think MySpace registers with Nokia’s core users like Facebook does. Perhaps it’s because I take an elitist stance against MySpace in favor of Facebook, too.

NOOOOOOOOOOOO! Don’t deface perfectly good phones with this flash-in-the-pan, must-do-it-because-everyone-else-does nonsense. Not everyone wants Facebook shoved in their, er, face.

I would personally steer clear of a Nokia that had a button dedicated to FB. If the button could be changed for a different feature like opening the net or muting the call then maybe, but I don’t care to use my phone to surf FB.
