$13,465.60
yes that’s right dear reader. Ewan’s pockets would be hurting a lot more than they currently do if he was in our fair country.
Here’s how we figured it out.
Ewan would have the exact same plan I do. On Fido, the now defunct $18 value pack that gives me 12MB of data a month.
Data usage by our Ewan was 275MB for the month.
He gets 12MB included in the plan, that’s 263MB left over.
263MB equals 269312k
Now at the ever gouging rate of 5cents/kb that would be
269312k * 5cents = $13,465.60
which at the current exchange rate is…. 6,864.618 GBP
Yup. Feel free to pick up jaws off the floor now.
To think we complain here in the UK about data charges! :S
If Ewan was in Poland…
on any business tariff he's chose with Era (my current provider), I'm guessing he'd choose the biggest data plan:
39,00 z? for 500 MB data usage, which I'm covers his usage.
39 zl at current exchange rate = 9.1472 GBP
any usage above that is 0,001 z? for 1K. I leave the maths on this one to you
There go your jaws ladies and gents
Heh, AT&T's next-up-to-unlimited package is 5MB, and I blew through 1.5GB last month.
geez!
And what was the cost?
I'd actually like to move to Canada one day, so y'know, if Mr Rogers could sort his data plans out, that'd be great 🙂
i wonder how is it that in other country it only costs about a tenner… i use net of my phone all the time back home, but i wouldn't dare in uk, not with this prices.
He's probably too busy running his baseball team and television stations, but I'll see if I can give him a call for you Dan.
Don't let it stop you from moving here one day, we have Tim Hortons.
Fido do have some data options, specifically billed as “Internet Options for Wireless Internet Access” http://www.fido.ca/portal/en/domore/options.shtml
If Ewan was on fido, he could sping for the $100/mo option that gives 200M/mo, with overage at $5/MB, so his 275M would have cost the $100 for the month, plus $375 overage – $475 still isn't pretty, but it's a hell of a lot better than $13.5k. Of course, then there are the months you only use 50M and end up paying the $100 anyway.
Nice!
