UK MNO response to iPhone launch?

Has anyone phoned up their respective operators today to cancel or change their number to a new o2 iPhone 3G? I’m really interested to garner viewpoints on how the other UK operators are reacting to the launch.

One reader I talked to — who works for a UK operator — was privately horrified to find that the briefings given to the operator’s customer service teams was more or less inaccurate. Along the lines of Krystal’s experience earlier.

I’m expecting a call from 3UK’s customer services in the coming weeks to try and get me signed up to another 12 month contract. Remember I popped in to their shop a while ago offering to take on an 18-month commitment in return for a N95 8GB — and they said ‘yeah, if you pay a 250 quid early upgrade fee’? (Or words to the effect)

2 months on, the market has changed — as I explained to 3UK CS, so that conversation will be rather exciting. I’d much rather spend a bit of dosh on an iPhone 3G version than avail myself of an N95 8GB and another fixed term.

It's always tricky to figure out when there's good offers around - but around 1.5 months ago (and 3 months before end/contract) I got a call from 3Uk. I was paying £5 pcm + £5/1Gb data, but with no phone for this year - I took calls only. Initially having a good scottish chat, and then offering an LG for 5pcm & 0, they quickly (I mentioned iPhone) moved to a N95 8Gb for £30 on an 18month. That was such a wicked deal.

Oh, and a few weeks later I won a N96 from Nokia - won't get it for a while yet though ;-)

So I admire the usability improvements in the iPhone esp. the browser -- and the packaging is great. Meanwhile the Nokia UI is somewhat clunky, but overall it's a superb device. The camera is really nice (but minimal protection!) 2ends of the spectrum. Now if only we had the best of both
