Won’t somebody please get me a Nokia E51?

Something strange is happening with me. It happened over the weekend.

I was in a Vodafone shop and … I don’t know what came over me. I headed over to the other side of the store where they had the ‘work’ phones and I started browsing the small handsets.

We’re doing a lot of consultancy at the moment which means I’m having to be on-site in client offices regularly. And lugging about the Nokia E90 is a bit annoying. It’s huge. And it interferes with the lines of one’s suit.

I felt myself wanting a smaller, lighter handset. But with the same general facilities that I’m used to from Nokia – Mail for Exchange in particular.

I am now seriously considering a Nokia E51. Small. Slim. Powerful.

Good choice, do you think?

Might as well go for an E71 – very pocketable, bigger screen, and I believe that the only real difference is the keyboard, which is nice.

Oh, I love the E51. Perfect upgrade over my E50, which I not longer use though.

If only the E66 was not a slider phone.

the Nokia E51 is a terrible choice because it does not have a keyboard! If you want a small Smartphone with email, I would suggest the Nokia E70 ( http://europe.nokia.com/e70 ) or the iPhone.

Ok I'm going to take a fresh look. I wanted a SLIM and LIGHT one though…

I was going to say the same thing!

And the white one is well nice.

Will it go with some starched-white Reebok Classics?

Get a Blackberry. The new Bold is very swish, but the older models (with camera and GPS) are fairly cheap now. Good for bashing out emails and notes. OS4.6 allows easy viewing of Word, PPT, PDF etc.

I want to recommend this phone to you. Really!

But the tiny buttons (and I mean tiny – even my 19 year old sister has resorted to using her nails to press buttons – if I delete another text instead of hitting 'abc' I'm going to go mad! :) , and random user interface of Symbian has driven me to despair with this.
Watch in amusement as it auto-sets the volume of bluetooth headsets to a volume of it's choice (2 of 10 it seems) every time you answer the phone.

I've been using Nokia for 9 years now and this is another example of why I describe Symbian series 60 v3 as the equivalent to MS Vista: tons of useful features but you have to use the Force to get any of them to work in any userfriendly manner!

I use the E51 as my main handset. Love it. Great keypad & form factor. Camera isn't great but that's an acceptable compromise for me. I reviewed it a while back – http://www.smstextnews.com/2008/04/nokia_e51_an…

Always knew you were a man of the classics ;-)

I have to agree…the E51 is a great phone! Especially if like Ewan all you are looking for a is a slim, light easy to haul about phone with a good exchange support. You wouldn't want to be wriiting huge emails on it but as a comfortable way to stay in touch, you cant fault it. I've had mine for 3 months now and don't know how I lived withouth before :)

My friend Tarek has one of these handsets and I really, really like.

    Quite sleek and swish.

I think I will need to get one. I can't be carrying around this huge E90
    all the time.

I still have the E90 sent to me by WOM. I wonder if they want it back at all. And yea, the phone's huge.

e51 is clearly aimed at regaining those loyal 6310i users
theres alot of those still about.

i'd prefer the e66 (sliders to lock keypad/answer call are so handy)
or more than any e series the e71 but that's me.
