The lesson for that is to call your credit card company before going out of the country to have a vacation. Let them know that you are going to a particular place.

I can picture what you look like when your credit card is not accepted. That was a very bad travel experience. But the good thing is you learned a lesson from that credit card.

oh, those are really bad experiences about your card. Anyway since you are often visit other countries I can recommend you LMT or LastMinuteTravel for their good deals and services. They can find you good hotel with good price to stay in. You can even save some travel expenses. Try them also as I always have their deals whenever i travel to other places.

I can identify with the card declined scenario. I was in France on business earlier this year & tried to pay my hotel bill with my HSBC Corporate card. Declined - try again - declined. I had a couple of personal cards so used one of those. Phoned HSBC when I got home & was told - 'you should have phoned us to tell us you were travelling abroad'. Firstly - it's a corporate card & what do business people with cards do - they travel - duh! Secondly, they'd happily authorised some other transactions on the same trip - so not even consistent.
