Mobile Industry Review Show – Week 39

Hello, hello!

We are most definitely BACK this week — back in London after the international shows we’ve been publishing over the last two weeks. The team is in one place. In fact they’re positively beaming with excitement.

In this week’s show:

– We visit the LG Renoir launch and take a look at the handset ( 00:27 )
– We talk to some LG chaps about the Renoir ( 09:23 )
– We chat to some other bloggers at the LG event ( 12:09 )
– We head to Helsinki to hear Rafe Blandford discuss the Samsung Innov8
(The S60 Samsung handset) ( 16:10 )
– James Whatley flies to Las Vegas and brings us his view of the Nokia E71 ( 13:52 )
– We preview the G1 Google Phone (we’re seeing that this coming Wednesday) ( 22:18 )
– And, of course, we’ve got *FREE STUFF*. Lots of free stuff. ( 28:02 )

  1. Hey guys
    Great show as ever.
Even as a lowly normob, god help me I think I might be learning stuff from watching!
Keep up the good work , would love the Flip too if at all possible 😀
    cheers
    Tarah x

  2. First time viewer here. Very nice show, i randomly stumbled across it. I will be sure to add this site to my RSS feeds.

Keep up the good work 🙂

  3. Those annoying anti-piracy adverts have penetrated Ocifant's brain so much that he has to capitalise FACT every time he types it!

Ben did record some brief facts about Lincoln's Inn Fields but I guess it hit the cutting room floor 🙁

  4. wow what a great show ,how have i never seen this site befor i don't know but i'll definatley be bookmarking it for furure visit's.
i still are not convinced by the innov8 it just does'nt seem to offer anything more than an 8mp camera.
I'm just curious will you guy's bbe at the unveiling of the nokia 5800/tube ? that will be fun seeing what it as to offer

  5. Great show, but James which handset did you prefer out of the new LG and the Samsung? I would love to know your thoughts!
The question goes out to the others as well if they have played with both the phones!

  6. Thanks!

I don't think the 5800 release is official yet, but we'll be on the case for invites as/when. I stand by my comments the other day though that Nokia see this just as a music (smart-ish) phone so it'll be pretty disappointing when lined up against the G1s and iPhones….

  7. that video call was awesome! it was the first one for me.
really enjoy all your shows! hint hint.. i need one of those freebies!

  8. Honestly? I think I preferred the Samsung.

Jsut felt a bit more durable. There's a bit that was cut from the LG launch where I rant about the E71 seeming a lot more sturdier by way of comparison to the LG. The Renoir felt like a model phone that you might find on the shelf in a P4U.

The LG Secret actually feels much nicer to hold and use.

  9. Ocifant,

OK – this week's facts… we were in Lincoln's Inn Fields in the last segment – the largest open square in the UK (apparently) and modeled on central park in New York, although it's been there since the 1700s. It's named after the adjacent 'Lincolns Inn' one of the 4 Inns in London where barristers are called to the Bar and is often confused with the slightly more attractive (IMO), but private, gardens there.

    B.

  10. Thanks Ben 🙂

Also,a few years ago, it was home to a large 'cardboard city' of homeless and was largely a no-go area at night.

Not many people know that 😉

  11. yep you maybe right but i'm more intrested in the technology they are using so i can get an idea of what nokia's upmarket touch phones will be like in the future
i think we need to wait and see before we totally rule it out

  14. Hey Ely,

I'm not sure if video calling is available in the US. Knowing the market as I do it'd probably be a carrier specific feature so you'd probably be better off asking your provider. One thing I can tell you is that you definitely need a 3G signal (something which has only been recently rolled out across the States), and again – you'd probably have to check with your carrier.

Ben called me on his N82, I picked up on my N95 8GB.

    FYI

..and glad you liked the feature!
