Symbian is still strongest contender

Got a challenging note in from Magnus Ingelsten, VP Marketing at imaging experts, Scalado. If you haven’t come across them recently, Scalado is the imaging software technology provider for camera phone OEM, and has applications in 4 out of the 5 Tier 1 manufacturers. In his comment, Magnus makes the point that it isn’t all about Android — or the Apple iPhone.

Symbian is so far the strongest contender in the smartphone business, now all the new OS’s that are emerging, open or not, just show the great market potential and the users expectations for phones with great multimedia capabilities and OTA access to applications and content.

From a Scalado business stand point it means that our OEM customers will make more smartphones and on various OS i.e. Android, Symbian, Win etc., and there is a need for great imaging experiences in all of them which we are happy to cater for.

Even some new Android phones are coming out with Scalado imaging technologies.

I’m looking forward to seeing these new Android handsets; but it’s a useful point from Magnus. Don’t forget the millions using Symbian.

Yet.

Talking about imaging… have you seen the iPhone usage on Flickr of late? It looks a lot like an exponential curve to me!
