Ben Verwaayen’s done good, hasn’t he? Chairman of Alcatel-Lucent? Right on. He’s come along way since I saw him speak at BT Centre YEARS ago about how well BT was doing with broadband. I almost stormed the stage yelling, ‘But I get 20k/sec throughput? You call this broadband.’
Anyway. Did you catch the news via FierceWireless?
It took Alcatel-Lucent just two months to secure a new leadership team. The company today announced that former British Telecom executive Ben Verwaayen will replace Patricia Russo as CEO of the firm and French businessman Philippe Camus, a former chief executive with European Aeronautic Defense and Space Company, will replace Serge Tchuruk as chairman.
Ewan,
As it says in the FierceWireless piece Ben is becoming CEO at Alcatel-Lucent – not chairman. I worked at a senior level at BT and Ben is pretty hot stuff. He was the driving force behind getting broadband out of the mess it was in and delivering real new wave revenue growth.
Interestingly he answers his own mail from consumers. God alone knows how he found the time for that but when a “request” came down from the CEO's office to sort out poor Mrs Singh's service, believe me things moved and fast.
Steve
Woops CEO!
Thats rather impressive stuff.

Yeah, I recall interviewing him at BT's Shropshire network control centre once – very on the ball and incisive.
Smoke and mirrors mostly… is BT much better off now?
BT at 178p is trading lower than 5 years ago. way to go. great job.
