Just a note:

According to Zoombak, once activated account must be active and billed for one year, regardless of plan chossen.

I just closed my account, and now I am informed that it can never be re-activiated. That does not make much sense, they stated it was a "SIM" issue, but I would think that like a cell phone, that transponder could be tied to a provider in the future. You would think it would be like setting a "New Account".

Basically this policy makes Zoombak a "one time use" product

Would love to see uptake graphs / extrapolations if you can get them.

Oh, and assumptions - like "x% of people don't trust their kids/employees, so this is perfect for both relationships".

Let's see the business case why an MNO would want to launch something like this.

<sceptics goggles>

So they use T-Mo's network in the US to report the GPS unit's location, geofencing, alerts,etc.

Could be useful for finding the dog. Assuming the dog isn't off with its mates and has wrapped it in tinfoil or removed the batteries.

To get value from this (suspending all privacy/trust issues for a minute), your object of desire needs to be 1. outdoors 2. in mobile coverage 3. charged up. 4. then you actually need to know and 5. be in a position to receive the info and act on it. Chances of all 5 of these coinciding?

N-I-C-H-E.

Just how many Geotracking startups will have to burn before someone realises this sort of thing is a technical solution to a mass-market problem that just doesn't exist?

Coming soon to a VC round near you: garden Gnomes with GPS / solar-charged Gnome hats / 2G-3G antenna in the fishing rod.
