Can you take this phone scuba diving? I just read an article about a couple stranded in the middle of the ocean for 24 hours. If they had a phone that received service they could have been rescued a lot sooner! This could potentially be great for water enthusiasts.

LOL. while I'm kiteboarding and might somehow like to say some quickie “Hello's” to my loved ones, will this phone suffice if I'm deep under the sea for a couple of hours-scuba diving (after kiteboarding of course)?

I think you should definitely do an extended immersive seawater test, as it's obviously made for watersports, and thus saltwater would be the norm in that case. Also something that exposes it to light shocks and sand, dirt etc. Get someone to take it windsurfing for an afternoon. Me for example – I'm going in a few days.

Try dropping the phone out the window from the third floor onto the sidewalk. I accident did that once with a Motorola E1000 and I think It even worked better after the fall.

I'd be interested to see how the Nokia 5140 (quite an old phone now though) stands up against this new contender.

It looks almost identical to this one, and although the 5140 isn't marketed as an indestructible phone, it came out of The Gadget Show's "tested to descruction" tests (IIRC... grilling on a BBQ, blown up on the back of a pick-up truck, submerged and various deep-water pressures simulated with explosives). I'm sure I can dig the video up from somewhere if you'd like.

There's a couple of them in a desk at work. I wonder if they'd miss one.

Awesome, please will you put it in the freezer for 8-9 hours with full charge and see how it fares when you take it out. This would replicate a good day out in the rucksack of a winter sports enthusiast.
