In theory, nothing stops the other networks offering a discounted bill for receiving ads.

In practice the don't because:

- They do now have the technical set-up or employee expertise to deliver anything like a Blyk experience. Operators hold a similar amount of data to Blyk on their member base but are unable to join the dots between the silos therefore are unable to make real use from it. It's all about relevance, this is something the MNO's cannot deliver.

- They are too busy making loads'a cash by charging people for communication. This will not be the way for much longer, I guarantee it.

Whats to stop O2 or Voda etc, giving you Â£10 off a month if you will receive adverts?

Aren't they kind of losing one of their usp's?

Still its most likely down to trying to continue the service, add new products and fight it out in these hard times..

Good luck to them.. .(I don't have a phone from them as I'm to old to use it !)

I suspect the recession has reduced Blyk's ad revenue to the point they had cut their costs. So they have essentially halved the value and cost ot the free Blyk services.

Incidentally, did Blyk's price for data change or is it still 99p/MB? 99p is steep but I doubt they would cut it as they are raising the voice rate. It's probably easy for them to cut the price of SMS as it essentially costs nothing to carry on a network. Voice and data have real costs
